Timeless

Read this article today and really liked it. I agree that the mid-century modern chair will never go out of style, and with it being well-received and well-portrayed in pop culture these days, there's now a renewed interest, which delights me to no end.

(The Mid Century Modern Designers: George Nelson, Edward Wormley, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, Charles Eames and Jens Risom, featured on Playboy Magazine, July 1961 and republished by DWR)
"Forged by the mid century modern era gods of furniture design, these chairs were the epitome of innovation when they were first conceived and still top the charts today as the greatest for their resilience and timeless design...These classic designer chairs have a funny way of transforming an ordinary room into something spectacular."

Clocks for the Modern Living Room

These days, they're not only for telling the time. They are also used to add character to the room, and is a design piece in itself. If you are leaning towards a more contemporary living room, then you might like these clocks. Although a traditional clock would always add elegance, sometimes something more playful and fun could also help to update what is an otherwise ordinary room. If you are looking to redecorate your bedroom but you are on a budget, this might interest you. Glamour doesn't always mean expensive and couture. And even if you are using simple materials it doesn't always mean that your design would look cheap!

Vintage Bathrooms

Love these vintage bathrooms. It's not just about the wallpaper per se, but also the accessories and the styling. Some use really old pieces and some are very smart with their choice of color. (Click the photos for the source.)

Lovely Living: Quotes on Interior Design

(via)

Here are some quotes on interior design and home living that I found really inspiring and has encouraged me to take care of my home and be confident in my own skills, even if I am not a designer:

If you are collector, let other people share your pride and joy. Don't sprinkle your collection out of sight in a meaningless jumble. Notice how groups of small objects, when they are well arranged, become important and effective. Remember that repetition is a form of emphasis. Collect what you will, but see to it that you arrange your hobby to its best advantage. -- Dorothy Draper, Good Housekeeping

Remember, color is not just color, but mood, temperature and structure. -- Van Day Truex, Interiors, Character, and Color

Be faithful to your own taste because nothing you really like is ever out of style. -- Billy Baldwin

The most beautiful rooms are those that retain a feeling of not being quite finished. There is still a place for a painting on that wall, still a chair to be found that will suit that corner...meanwhile the room stays alive, young and growing. -- Michael Taylor, The Finest Rooms

Taste is relative and is the sum total of the intellectual and emotional experiences of the individual experiences of the individual. Taste, in order to be positive and vital, must be exercised and developed. Taste is changeable and is influenced by environment. A highly cultivated taste, a taste that is knowledgeable and eclectic, is likely to be exciting and provocative, a personal taste at its highest level. --- Eleanor Brown, The Finest Rooms by America's Great Decorators

Quirky Things in People's Houses

I am always curious and then enamored of how people decorate their houses. Mostly I am interested in the little things, the little details and quirks that makes the decorations unique. I like it when something unusual, or even something so ordinary, when gathered or placed by the owner in different ways, shows a side of the person living there. I would then create these stories in my head about their likes, dislikes, etc.

Anyway, here are some quirky things in other people's houses. Hope you are entertained as I am.

A Cute Tea Towel

Dear Colleen has some lovely items in the shop, and I particularly like this cute tea towel. They are so dramatic and will definitely add flair in your kitchen! Called, Dishes I'd Rather Be Doing, this cheeky thing would be a great conversation piece, especially with friends over. Hugh Grant, Sean Bean and Colin Firth - oh yes I'd be sure to wash dishes more often.

Mid-century Modern

Mid-century modern design flourished between the early 1930s to the early 1960s. It involves design that is more open than formal, with lots of windows, and a sense of the outdoors. It was also a time when Scandinavian design holds more influence than most.

Here's David Bromstad in his show, Color Splash, as he helps design a mid-century modern living space:
